Announcing the Mid-Atlantic Review 2024

Day Eight is pleased to announce the release of The Mid-Atlantic Review 2024, an anthology of work first published in the online magazine.

The public are invited to join Review editors and contributors for a release party and reading, Sunday, November 24, 2:00-3:30pm. Space is limited and advance registration for the party is available on eventbrite here.

The 2024 print issue includes twenty-six poems selected by the editors from more than ten times that number published in the online magazine in the prior year. The 2024 editors of the Mid-Atlantic Review include Gregory Luce, Anne Becker, Jeffrey Banks, Holly Karapetkova, Dwayne Lawson-Brown, Regie Cabico, Serena Agusto-Cox, and Robert Bettmann. The issue also includes:

  • A selection of poems from the Celebrating Black History special section published online February-March, 2024, selected by editors Khadijah Ali-Coleman, Rebecca Bishophall, and Carolivia Herron. Read all poems from the section in the magazine here.
  • A selection of poems from the Jewish Experience special section published online October, 2024, selected by editors Ori Z Soltes and Robert Bettmann. Read all poems from the section in the magazine here.
  • Poems by the four finalists of the DC Poet Project, including 2024 winner Amuchechukwu Nwafor;
  • A selection of poems by DC AAPI poets commissioned by Day Eight in collaboration with the Mayor’s office of Asian and Pacific Islander Affairs. Read all commissioned poems in the magazine here.
  • Writing by youth participants in Day Eight’s summer Writing Camps and the spring 2024 pre-professional writing program for Women and Girls;
  • The winner and honorable mentions of the Luce Prize, an award made to celebrate exceptional poets in their first four years of publication;
  • In Memoriam section recognizing the recent loss of community members Reuben Jackson and Kathi Wolfe;

The Mid-Atlantic Review 2024 was made possible by individual donors to Day Eight and grants from the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities and the DC Mayor’s Office of AAPI Community Affairs. The cover features artwork commissioned from Matt Sesow and the internal of the magazine includes artwork by Dana Ellyn, Alexandra N Sherman, Alvaro Sanchez, Pat Goslee, Qrcky, Luis Del Valle, Alan Sislen, Stephen Sholl, Rachel Kanter, Cassandra Clark and Matt Sesow.
