Free Youth-led Writing Workshop at the Shepherd Park Library

Day Eight invites the public to a free youth-led writing workshop at the Shepherd Park Library, 7420 Georgia Ave NW, Sunday, November 24th, from 1:30 to 3:30 pm. The workshop is to be co-led by the participants of our Fall 2024 pre-professional writing program for women and girls and is appropriate for attendees of all ages. The facilitators for the workshop are: Suah Morgan, Yassah Morgan, Cydney Williams, Summer Wells, Eden Banks, Thecla Miller, Victoria Rivas, Zori Brown, and Kimaya Green, assisted by Rebecca Bishophall.

Day Eight’s pre-professional writing program for women and girls, “Write Now”, is designed to provide a supportive, creative space for DC-area middle and high school girls to grow. The group met twice a week for six hours each week over the nine weeks of the Fall 2024 session, engaging in arts activities and writing workshops led by Rebecca Bishophall. Rebecca Bishophall is a communications professional at a non-profit organization and co-author of the poetry book, Breaking the Blank, published in 2023 by Day Eight. Each program week included a guest faculty member who provided mentorship and guidance and additionally supported the young writers in honing their craft. The fall 2024 guest faculty included Pacyinz Lyfoung, Holly Karapetkova, Amuchechukwu Nwafor, Serena Agusto-Cox, Jessice Genia Simon, Maritza Rivera, and Haley Huchler.

We encourage you to attend this special workshop with friends, family, and anyone who appreciates the power of youth-led creativity. To ensure we have enough supplies for all, please email admin <at> dayeight.org to confirm your attendance and the number of guests in your party. The Fall 2024 Write Now series was made possible by grants from Learn24 and the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities and individual donors to Day Eight.
