Day Eight is pleased to provide a special opportunity for participants in our pre-professional writing program for women and girls: a youth and parent/guardian pair poetry workshop. This unique event, modeled after our Back to School with Joy workshops, will take place Sunday, April 6th, from 2:00-4:00pm at the Shepherd Park Library.
Recognizing the challenge of reserving free time to participate in activities with our youth, the first 10 pre-registered participant pairs will receive a $100 honorarium. Registration will be on a first-come, first-served basis. Use the form below to submit your registration request today!
This opportunity is exclusively for pairs including a female-identifying youth age 10-18 and a parent or caregiver. This generative writing workship is a unique chance for adults to model a love for language and for family members to together explore the art of poetry. We are thrilled to have Regie Cabico leading this workshop. Regie Cabico is a spoken word pioneer having won The Nuyorican Poets Cafe Grand Slam and later taking top prizes in three National Poetry Slams. Regie is the author of the book, A Rabbit in Search of a Rolex, published in 2023 by Day Eight, and his work appears in over 30 anthologies including Aloud: Voices from the Nuyorican Poets Café, Spoken Word Revolution & The Outlaw Bible of American Poetry. An editor of Day Eight’s literary magazine, the Mid-Atlantic Review, Regie is also co-director of Day Eight’s summer writing camp. Don’t miss this opportunity to work with Regie Cabico and connect with your creative side!
Update April 8, 2025: Registration has closed for this program and the embedded registration form removed from the post. Thanks all for attending!
