The Anacostia Coordinating Council is pleased to partner with Day Eight to offer a poetry event, featuring Regie Cabico and Anne Becker, to reflect on the memories of 1968.

In his 1967 book, Martin Luther King Jr. asked us to consider, Where Do We Go From Here: Chaos or Community? King’s question, and the fiftieth anniversary of his assassination, are all too relevant today, and we invite you to offer your own poetic reflections, and to enjoy those of others, at this event.
Hosted by the Anacostia Coordinating Council with honorary host Ward Eight Councilmember Trayon White, poets Cabico and Becker will read selections from their poetry, followed by an open mic at which community members are asked to share their poetry related to Dr. King’s question: Community or Chaos?
This is a “DC Poet Project” event, and one open mic reader will be selected the winner by the ACC, Regie Cabico, and Anne Becker, and will be awarded a $100 dollar cash prize, and invitation to compete in the final DC Poet Project event – May 5th, at the Anacostia Library – for a $500 dollar prize and book contract.
The DC Poet Project was created by the non-profit Day Eight – www.DayEight.org – through funding from the DC Arts Commission, and in partnership with the DC Public Library, Upshur Street Books, and Brink Media.
